To run Wine you can follow instructions from to download and install the most recent version (the one on the software center on Ubuntu and Linux Mint is kinda very old, unless they fixed this in Ubuntu 18.04 and LM 19).
Run all you can as native linux software, try Wine in its more recent versions for windows-only games you just can't live with and see if they run well enough.

Forget AMD closed source drivers for linux, for recent GPUs they are history, the opensource built-in driver is already faster and more stable on almost all tests. Nvidia GPUs still get better performance than AMD GPUs on Linux, but recently the opensource AMD GPU drivers are improving fast and becoming a good option, without the need for any extra work after just installing the OS.
With Nvidia GPUs it takes a bit more work installing closed source driver and some 32-bit libs for it after installing the system, but nothing really hard or too complicated if you follow instructions well. Reboot the system to install the new kernel and enable the HSA kernel driver: sudo reboot. Like counter strike source at 30 fps all settings minimal. For Ubuntu, install the linux-image kernel package using: sudo dpkg -i kfd-1.6/ubuntu/.deb. Im running ubuntu 16.10 and I cant play any games what so ever. It has the open-source Radeon and chipset drivers built-in, and they will support all relevant parts of your APU. Just get Ubuntu 18.04 and you will have a recent enough Linux Kernel (4.15), etc, all built-in the OS with zero extra effort. Just install any up-to-date Linux distro. Then, whenever you get used to it and feel its time, you can nuke windows for goodĪbout ryzen+amd gpu+linux, it is quite easy now to get it working. That way you can take your time without missing stuff. Not only the gpu driver but the ethernet also doesn't work,everything worked fine with the laptop but getting no where in my apu.I tried setting everything manually,the mac address,ipv4 address,dns literally everything so I'm assuming it's hardware related.So,I managed to get a wifi usb adapter to connect to a network but thats kinda troublesome cause I'have to set some things up every time I'm gonna use ubuntu.Same doubt here,that the ethernet might not work after installation.įor these reasons I have not installed ubuntu.But I'm gonna install it anyway after preparing a couple of recovery methods for worst case scenarios.Įverything I tried was on the live usb of ubuntu 18.04.3 after booting with nomodeset.
